Sister Tree Services

In addition to our educational workshops in prisons, schools and youth groups, Sister Tree also offers courses and sessions specifically designed for conferences, as well as corporate training of an extremely high standard.

Sister Tree thus provides a large number of services, and tailors each workshop carefully so that it fully meets the needs of the recipient. Whether you are a corporation looking to encourage free thinking and team cohesion, a prison seeking to enhance the self-worth and skills of your inmates, or a school looking for a fresh and innovative way to improve the communication skills and critical thinking of your students, Sister Tree has a package and a branch of the arts to suit your requirements! Whether you're a college or a care home, take a look at the information below, and then feel free to contact us for more details, and for a chat about your specific concerns.

MUSIC opens all sorts of communicative avenues, but its benefits are often ignored in more traditional educational programmes. Our music workshops develop artistic skills, promote self-awareness and self-esteem via direct engagement with composition and performance. From musical plays to concerts, pop to classical, our musical workshops discover what the participants like, even if they're not sure themselves, and proceed from there. Music provides an outlet for frustration, fear and low self-esteem, promoting self-expression and the development of new and affirming skills. We address living issues in a friendly, fun, lively and safe atmosphere. Rhythm games, percussion instruments, singing, harmonies, chanting, composition and improvisation all play their part in our programmes, which have been hugely successful in every conceivable environment.

DANCE is a dynamic means of of self-expression which encourages physical fitness and good self-image. We create contemporary dance, develop weight and balance control, body awareness, basic choreography, Hip-Hop, Jazz, street contemporary and African styles. Each workshop focuses on the area of dance most of interest to the participants, and concentrates on choreography and teamwork, inculcating a strong group ethic.

DRAMA encompasses so many skills that its benefits are almost too many to enumerate: from writing to performance, from creative brainstorming to set design, the theatre can teach us many skills of practical use to us in our daily lives. A successful production or improvisation can increase our self-belief and self-confidence, enabling us to understand our capacity for quick-thinking and public speaking. Theatre can make a huge contribution to a person's self-esteem - not only are the successful results viewable to an entire audience, but the creation and performance of a scene is a method of communication that allows the dramatisation of real life problems or issues which may otherwise be difficult to express. By making our drama workshops relevant to the experiences and lives of the participants, we are able to emphasise just how important and powerful a tool the theatre can be, and provide an unforgettable and deeply rewarding experience to them.

POETRY is a powerful and highly expressive art form which enables the communication of complex and esoteric ideas in evocative and unconventional language. Our poetry workshops concentrate on finding and fostering the creativity in every person, encouraging the writing and performance of pieces that mean something to the participant. The realization that poetry is not for the elite, and can be a really helpful tool for everyone, can result in a huge increase in self-esteem, since it provides a really effective outlet for fear or frustration that requires no one other than ourselves. Our poetry workshops are hugely successful explorations of the power and potential of poetry to contribute something positive and unique to our ideas about both ourselves and the world around us.

VOICE training can improve self-confidence and enhance our effectiveness in a huge variety of situations. From large public meetings to everyday conversations at home or work, our workshops concentrate on providing the skills and knowledge necessary to improve every participant's self-confidence and communication abilities. Focussing on rhythm, pace, intonation and volume, as well as what we say and how to say it, our voice workshops are of huge benefit to a wide variety of people, whatever they need to say and wherever they're saying it.

STORYTELLING is an oral tradition which has passed through the centuries, right through to today. We encourage the use of extensive vocabulary, creative expression, and develop the knowledge needed to tell a good story. We are known for telling Anansi tales that always have a moral to them, then getting everyone involved to dramatise it. So if you would like to make one up or have one told to you, contact us for stories that will never be forgotten!
